during the 1800's handball became a very popular game in Europe especially in countries like Ireland and the UK, when Irish immigrants came over from Europe to the US, they also brung over the game of handball to the eascoast as well as the westcoast, during the Great depression to combat with the amount of unemployement NY Dept Recreation constructed handball courts across the 5 boroughs and became a city past time behind baseball and football!
